One of the elements of the country music genre is that, over the years, there have been a multitude of songs about faith and God. They were sandwiched in among the nucleus of traditional country music, which includes stories of heartache, cheating, and drinking. Talk about walking into a lion’s den! 


Because of country music’s rich history of songs about faith and God, it would be negligent of me not to include, from time to time, a genuine country song about faith and God in Essie Country’s 21st Century Real Country Music Song of the Week series. 


Our first tip of the hat to a country music song about faith and God was “Cowboy Church” by Megan Barker and Zane Williams, back in March of this year. “Pray” is an excellent choice for Essie Country to once again recognize and acknowledge country music’s history of songs about faith and God. 


This week’s song of the week, “Pray” by Erin Vaincourt, is a textbook example of how real country music is written and performed. Erin gives a masterful vocal performance of a song she wrote. No one gives a song more credibility and sincerity than an artist performing a song they wrote, and Erin does just that. 


Erin’s incredible voice, impeccable performance, sincerity, and her well-written song, “Pray,” are why this song would have been a number one hit on Billboard’s Hot Country Chart if today’s “country music radio” played real country music.


Unfortunately, “Pray” wouldn’t have a prayer’s chance in hades of making the playlist on today’s fake country music radio. Country music radio may not have included “Pray” on its playlist, but Essie Country has. “Pray” is now an important part of Essie Country’s 21st Century Real Country Music Song of the Week playlist.

Greetings to fans of real country  music, and welcome to this week’s  Essie Country’s 21st Century Real  Country Music Song of the Week, for the week of 11/30/25 - 12/06/25 Watching it Rain by Jesse Raub Jr Released 05/24/2024 Intro by Gene Johns Who would have thought that repeating the phrase “watching it rain” fifteen times in a song would make it a great song? Yes, I counted them. I’m retired, so I have the time to investigate such trivial things.   “Watching it Rain” is a catchy song written by singer-songwriter Joel Shewmake and performed by a real country artist, Jesse Raub Jr. I challenge you to listen to this song a second time and not sing along with “watching it rain.”   Jesse sings about lying in a river and watching it rain.
