Thirty-nine-year-old Brian Callihan was only eleven-years-old when he realized he wanted to be a country music singer. He came to that realization after he got Country Music Hall of Fame member Keith Whitley’s  Greatest Hits album. Whitley’s music inspired Brian to start song writing and to teach himself how to play the guitar. 


Brian, who was actively involved in sports growing up on a small farm in Southern Georgia, put down his baseball glove and football helmet to start performing two-hour sessions at local bars at the age of fifteen. That experience reinforced his desire to become a country music artist and songwriter which led him to move to Nashville in 2009. 


“On Top of the World,” cowritten by Brian, is an upbeat fun song to listen to and it is an excellent example of real country music. The country music industry ignored what would have been a strong contender for a number one song on Billboard’s Hot Country Top 40 chart, if country music radio still played real country music and the country music industry hadn’t betrayed  its roots. 


However, Essie Country hasn’t ignored this talented authentic country music artist and his foot tapping two stepping undeniable real country music single. Essie Country is pleased to present to you, real country music artist Brian Callihan performing his single, “On Top of the World,” as this week’s Essie Country’s 21st Century Real Country Music Song of the Week.

Greetings to fans of real country  music, and welcome to this week’s  Essie Country’s 21st Century Real  Country Music Song of the Week, for the week of 11/30/25 - 12/06/25 Watching it Rain by Jesse Raub Jr Released 05/24/2024 Intro by Gene Johns Who would have thought that repeating the phrase “watching it rain” fifteen times in a song would make it a great song? Yes, I counted them. I’m retired, so I have the time to investigate such trivial things.   “Watching it Rain” is a catchy song written by singer-songwriter Joel Shewmake and performed by a real country artist, Jesse Raub Jr. I challenge you to listen to this song a second time and not sing along with “watching it rain.”   Jesse sings about lying in a river and watching it rain.
